Surgical Screws

Screws have been used in medicine and surgeries to aid recovery particular to orthopedics.
In cases of torn ligaments, a common injury among sportsmen, the screw is used to fix the tendon to the bone to stabilized the joint. Titanium or stainless steel screws, modified to have no reaction with the patient’s body, have been the traditional method of insertion. However, they require a second surgery to be removed once the joint has stabilized.

This video show how the screws are inserted into the patient's broken bones to stabilise it. The use of plates and different types of screws are used. Dissolvable screws are being developed so that a second surgery would not be needed. The screw contains chemicals which could be absorbed by the bones and thus form part of the bones.
