A new ease of replaceability

Postrevolution, the screw has brought about a convenience that no alternative has provided. This is in the form of its ease of replaceability. If a part of fastened objects is faulty, the objects can be dismantled simply by using a screw driver. The screw can be reused subsequently to refasten the object. Its current counterparts: glue and nails do not provide as much easy.

Hinges

Hinges are often an unappreciated necessity that has allowed the invention of the swinging door, and products with a pivoting action. Hinges typically come in the form of 2 flat panels which are connected together and allow a rotation action between the two objects attached to it. The screw’s role is in attaching this hinge to the objects the hinge seeks to connect.

While glue and nails are viable alternatives to screws, the screw allows unprecedented mobility, and reusability of the hinge. Detaching and reattaching is easy. If the hinge is faulty, we just need to unscrew it and replace the dysfunctional hinge. This is in contrast to a nailed or glued hinge, in which the entire item is likely to have to be replaced.

Military Weapons

Screws are extremely important to keep its several components intact, yet replaceable. Rather than condemning the entire equipment (and as a result, many tracked equipment parts), screws play a crucial role in allowing faulty parts to be disassembled and replaced. The faulty part can be easily dismantled through unscrewing, while preserving the rest of the weapon.

As such, screws heavily reduced the maintenance cost of expensive military weapons. Also, because of the easy segregation of faulty parts, each faulty part can be traced individually for usage, condemnation, loss, or repair, which makes stocktaking easier

Other Appliances

Screw hinges can be used for other panels or objects which require this pivotal action as well. Without the screw, it would not be not possible.
